What is Roulette?
Roulette is an extremely popular choice for online casino players. Played on a spinning wheel, casino players can choose to place a bet on a single number, groups of numbers, colours (red or black), odd or even numbers, or if the numbers are high (19-36) or low (1-18). Croupiers will spin the wheel before dropping the ball into rotation. The ball bounces across deflectors and slowly loses momentum before landing on one of 37 (French/European Style) or 38 (American Style) coloured and numbered pockets of the wheel. Players with a successful bet will then be paid. Ready to spin the Roulette wheel in this popular casino game? Play Roulette X2 and more! If you'd like to play live instead of video Roulette, be sure to try Live Immersive Roulette.
How to Play Online Roulette
If you’re wondering about all of the specifics when it comes to how to play Roulette, then we have a variety of articles to help you to understand the fundamentals. Whether it’s Roulette strategy you’re after, or a comprehensive guide to the different types of bets in Roulette, we have you covered with our in-depth casino blogs, with FAQs answered and key terminology explained, so you feel confident the next time you place a Roulette bet.
Live Online Roulette
At Bet UK, we boast a wide range of Roulette options in our live casino, so you can experience the welcoming environment of the casino floor from the comfort of wherever you are. Traditional Live Roulette provides a classic style of gameplay, with conventional betting options and enthusiastic live dealers.
However, we also have some alternative live Roulette offerings, each with a unique addition to the gameplay. Lightning Roulette, for example, offers ways to win big that are reminiscent of live game shows. By randomly selecting lucky numbers at the start of each round, you could see your online Roulette wins boosted by as much as 500x, which is a significant increase. Combined with a 35-1 bet on a single number, this means you could theoretically win a 17,500x jackpot.
Online Roulette Table Games
If you want to have a bit more control over your gameplay, such as when each round takes place, then online Roulette table games might be the answer. Generally, games such as First Person Roulette offer the same great experience as live Roulette games, but with the noticeable absence of a dealer.
This means that you can spend longer deciding on your bets before spinning the Roulette wheel, which is handy if you’re new to the game, or if you’re looking to try out a new strategy. It’s not just newbies that online Roulette tables suit though, as even more experienced players may prefer to carry out their play in a quieter and more private environment. What’s more, these games allow you to play Roulette for free, in demo mode, without using any of your own money.
Roulette Wheels and Tables
When looking to play online roulette games, it is worth taking into consideration the different variations of games that are available. Some casino games offer a classic game experience while others will look to provide you with a completely unique experience when playing online roulette. There are three online roulette variants that alter the wheel and betting table that is available to play, they are American Roulette, European Roulette and French Roulette. Each live roulette table offers something unique and alters the gameplay slightly for players, so it's important to check out each variant and see which you prefer and then, when you add the table and live dealer roulette experiences to the mix, most casino games don't have the depth of the classic roulette. Below, you can see how they differ.
American Roulette: This variant of roulette has 38 separate pockets, numbers 1 to 36 are split between red and black colours and there are two additional pockets set up for 0 and 00 sections.
European Roulette: This variant of roulette has 37 separate pockets, numbers 1 to 36 are split between red and black colours but there is only one additional pocket set-up for the number 0. Meaning that there are less areas to bet on and win in European Roulette.
French Roulette: This variant is very similar to European Roulette and contains 37 pockets. However, the main difference is the addition of the La Partage. This means that players will get half their money back if the ball lands in 0. However, it can only be found in a few selected games.
Online Roulette Bets
Above you can find our definitive guide to Roulette bets but if you're looking for the basics, you can find that in this section. When looking to bet on the best online roulette games, you'll need to know the difference between your inside bets and your outside bets. Inside bets refer to the numbers 1-36 on the table and are the easiest to understand, even in different roulette games, you can find all inside bets are available to play. These are the inside bets that you can place when you play online roulette.
Straight-Up - The simplest of inside bet, this is the process of betting on a single number, place a chip inside the square of a number to place a straight-up bet on that number. The online roulette wheel will have to land on that section for you to win.
Split Bet - Picking a split bet is the process of picking two adjacent numbers on the table. Whether this is horizontal or vertical, it would work. So, if you picked 14 and 15, this would be a split bet, but 14 and 17 would be as well, as 14 sits above 17 on the roulette table. This pays out at half the rate of a straight-up bet.
Street Bet: - A street bet is one that is often overlooked by players, this is a bet that involves all of the numbers in a particular row, for example, 10-11-12 would all sit on one row. To place this bet, players place a chip on the outer box of the row. This pays out at 1/3rd of a straight up bet.
Corner Bet: A corner bet is the process of placing a bet on four numbers and this can be done by placing your chip on a corner with a quarter of the chip in four squares. An example of a square bet would be putting your chip on numbers 8-9-12-13 as this is placed on a corner, it would remove 10 and 11 as the chip wouldn't be touching those numbers.
Line Bet: The process of betting on two rows is called a line bet, not to be mistaken with the dozen bet, which is an outside bet. This is the process of betting on six numbers and this can be done by putting your chip on the bottom section in-between two rows. An example of this would be 8-9-10-11-12-13.
Five Bet: This is a bet that is only set-up for European Roulette players, there is a variation of it that works with American Roulette but it is the process of betting on four numbers, which is already named above. A European Five bet is the process of betting on numbers 0-00-1-2-3. So, ultimately, this covers two rows, similarly to a Line Bet but it covers the two 0 numbers, meaning there are only five numbers you can win on in comparison to the six in a line.
That is all of the inside bets that you will be able to use when playing online roulette games in the UK. However, inside bets aren't the only bets that you can place, below, you can find the outside bets that you can find in different roulette games.
Odd/Even: We move to the outside of the betting table with this bet type. At the bottom of the betting table, you will see two sections, one says odd and another says even, moving your chip to that section places a bet that states the winning number will be odd or even.
Red/Black: Almost identical to Odd/Even, there are two sections with one saying black and the other saying red, moving your chip to that section will payout if the winning number matches your selection.
1-18/19-36: The last evens option at the bottom of your Roulette betting table will be the options of 1-18 and 19-36, placing your chip in one of these sections will payout if the winning number is in the right part of the table.
All of these outside bets payout at a value of evens as they are the easiest bets to win. They are also some of the most popular bets in Roulette because of this.
Dozen Bet: If looking to place a dozen bet, you will see three sections at the bottom of the row, there is a circular section underneath each dozen and if you place your chip in one of these sections, you will win if the number is between 1-12, 13-24, 25-36.
Column Bet: Similar to the dozen bet, you will see three sections at the right-hand side of the betting table. These will basically appear as multiples of three from the first number, for example, 1-4-7, 2-5-8 and 3-6-9 as examples. Place a chip on a section to bet on that area, it will win if any number that row lands as the winner.

FAQs for Online Roulette Games
What is the house edge in Roulette?
Depending on the version of Roulette you play, the house edge is different. For example, in American Roulette, the house edge is approximately 5.26%, this is due to the number 0 and 00 that appears on the Roulette wheel. For single 0 games of Roulette, you will find that the house edge is approximately 2.6%.
How many numbers are there on a Roulette wheel?
The number of numbers that can be found on a roulette wheel differs depending on which variation of the game you are playing. For example, if you're looking to play the American version of Roulette, it contains 38 numbers, if you're looking to play European or French Roulette, there are 37 numbers. The additional number in the American version of the game is 00.
How do you win at Roulette every time?
Simply - you don't. You may win more often than you lose if the wheel spins in your favour, that is more than doable. However, winning at roulette every time is impossible. The closest recorded consecutive wins come from an example in 1891, a man went to the Monte Carlo Casino Resort and left as "The Man Who Broke the Bank". This man won 23 out of 30 consecutive spins and it is recorded as one of the luckiest streaks in Roulette history. Other areas of abnormality include the same number appearing seven times in a row and the same colour appearing 32 times in a row. Abnormalities can happen, but unfortunately, nobody can win at Roulette every time.
What are the odds of a single number in Roulette?
When playing roulette games, the odds of hitting a single number depend on the game you're playing. The odds of hitting a single number in Roulette is 37/1 in a game of American Roulette. However, the betting odds and returns that you would receive aren't this way, the payout for a single number is 35/1, which is what provides the house edge.
Can you bet on the colour Green in Roulette?
Yes. However, this can't be done in the same way as betting on red or black. This can be done by putting a straight-up bet on 0 during a European roulette game or a split bet on the numbers 0 and 00.
