All Weather Championships Racing Tips

All Weather Championships Tips – March 29

A cracking afternoon of all-weather racing is in store as the All Weather Championships Finals take centre stage on the now-traditional Good Friday slot. It's a seven-race card on the Tapeta at Newcastle, from 13:18-16:40, and we've got selections for all the action.

13:18 - BetMGM Burradon Stakes (Listed, 1m)

Orne sets the standard but his win in the Group 3 Horris Hill at Newmarket in November once more sees him carry a 5lb penalty, as he did when a close third in this grade at Lingfield earlier in the month, racing a shade keenly early on. He should be sharper now for the Gosdens.

SILENT AGE is 2-2 for Charlie Appleby in the Godolphin blue and was impressive five weeks ago at Wolverhampton in the manner he did his thing. He may well stay unbeaten.

Selection: Silent Age

13:53 - BetUK All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap (2m)

SPARTAN ARMY and Prydwen meet again after finishing first and second at Lingfield over this trip four weeks ago. Alan King's son of Highland Reel was notching a third straight success in a little over a month and comes here unbeaten on synthetics. He kicked clear off the final bend at Lingfield but when Prydwen came after him, he looked vulnerable and would have had every right to fold as the eventual second looked to pick him off. Spartan Army dug in and a 4lb rise might not stop him adding to his tally.

Selection: Spartan Army

14:25 - BetMGM All-Weather 3 Year Old Championships Handicap (6f)

Andrew Slattery's TARSUS has been allotted a mark of 92 after winning twice at Dundalk this season, with his latest success coming at the expense of course specialist Harry's Bar in a six-furlong conditions race, doing things with a degree of comfort. He's not yet exposed at this distance and can put an Irish winner on the board on AW Finals Day.

Selection: Tarsus

15:00 - BetMGM Fillies' And Mares' Championships Handicap (7f)

In-form duo Nine Tenths and Shades Of Summer will be on many shortlists but JUST A SPARK might be one to cause them plenty of worries. She won three on the spin at Wolverhampton and Kempton after the New Year and her latest Southwell disappointment can be forgiven fairly easily. She's just 2lb above her last win-mark and this four-year-old could have more to come, with Oisin Murphy remaining in the saddle as they tackle this extra furlong for the first time.

Selection: Just A Spark

15:35 - BetUK All-Weather Sprint Handicap (6f)

Albasheer has a fine Newcastle record after winning 2-3 here and, essentially, had a bit to spare over the fast-finishing BILLYJOH when they were first and second over 5f here a fortnight ago. Mick Appleby's charge is better off on these terms with the top-weight and a three-time winner over this 6f trip. Frederick Larson had to weave amongst rivals last time, while Albasheer got the perfect seam up the rail to hit the front and go clear, but it was a decreasing lead late on and Billyjoh has a squeak at turning things around, so he rates an each-way contender now.

Selection: Billyjoh

16:10 - BetUK All-Weather Easter Classic Middle Distance Handicap (1m2f)

North of £100k to the winner in this Easter Classic and it's deeply competitive with a field of 15 declared and none ruled out in certainty. Winter Oaks winner Oh So Grand for the Simon and Ed Crisford team is the headline act, going for four on the trot here and at Lingfield since the autumn.

PENZANCE won a hot handicap over C&D on New Year's Day, seeing off re-opposing Storm Catcher narrowly, and Mick Appleby's Wootton Bassett gelding has since scored with plenty in hand at Lingfield to complete a four-timer. He's up another 6lb but is expected to go close.

16:40 - BetMGM All-Weather Championships Mile Handicap (1m)

Hold-up tactics have been deployed in recent runner-up finishes here and at Kempton over a mile for SYMBOL OF LIGHT in his two 2024 runs. The ex-Godolphin inmate was really promising earlier in his career under more positive tactics and perhaps will be ridden forward now. He'll likely still need some luck in the run, but he should be finishing as well as anything and is on a workable mark.

Selection: Symbol Of Light
