Pendil Novices' Chase Day Betting Tips
Saturday's Kempton card features some top-class racing, including the Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap Chase and the Pendil Novices' Chase.
With 13 runners due to line up in the three-mile chase and three Grade 2 races for novices in all, there should also be some clues for the Cheltenham Festival from the high-quality action.
There are seven races in total, and we have selected our best bets for each of them.
13:15 - Ladbrokes 'Big-Value You Can Bet On' Handicap Hurdle (2m5f)
A tricky handicap hurdle kicks off proceedings, and Pyramid Place gets the vote of confidence for the Olly Murphy stable. While a little disappointing when last seen, he left a lasting impression when winning over course and distance in November. Lewis Saunders claims a useful 7lb, and a return to a course he has shown is to his liking can see him in the winners enclosure once more.
Selection: Pyramid Place
13:50 - Ladbrokes Pendil Novices' Chase (Grade 2) (2m4½f)
There are only six runners but this is a competitive novice chase. Paul Nicholls has won the race six times in the last decade and he is looking to add another success with Rubaud. Imperial Saint, however, is preferred for Philip Hobbs and Johnson White. He was perhaps slightly disappointing at Cheltenham last time, but finished the strongest of all the runners, and if able to improve on that he should have too much class for the rest.
Selection: Imperial Saint
14:25 - Ladbrokes Adonis Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) (2m)
This race is all about Mondo Man. Rarely will you see a horse pull as hard as he did for the majority of the race on his hurdling bow last time out. But he kept on well to finish second. Rated 111 on the flat, if he is able to settle and recapture some of the form that saw him sell for in excess of half a million euros, he should be too good for his rivals and can win for the Moore yard.
Selection: Mondo Man
15:00 - Ladbrokes Dovecote Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) (2m)
This is a race that can perhaps offer up clues for the Cheltenham Festival either directly, with a few of the runners entered in the Supreme, or through previous form lines. Miami Magic boasts the strongest form in the book when finishing behind Potters Charm at Aintree in December. If replicating the same level of performance shown on that occasion, he should be too good for the field. Celtic Dino was fourth that day and can improve, but is unlikely to turn the tables with Miami Magic.
Selection: Miami Magic
15:35 - Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap Chase (3m)
This looks as competitive a race as you will see all weekend, and it might be worth siding with an outsider. Unanswered Prayers ran respectably in the race last season and returns on a 1lb higher mark, although with Freddie Gordon taking 3lb off, that is negated. The Chris Gordon stable is in good form operating at a 19% strike rate, and also has a good record at Kempton with two winners at the last meeting at the course. He looks set to outrun his odds and could answer some punters' prayers.
Selection: Unanswered Prayers
16:10 - Ladbrokes 'Get Rewarded With Ladbucks' Handicap Chase (2m4½f)
A number of in-form horses are taking part, but Keep Running is perhaps the most in-form of the lot, having won his last two races by a combined total of 22 lengths. He is going up in trip again but that should be no problem, and if in the same form as when last seen, he can make it three in a row. Etalon is down to a good mark and can give Keep Running the most to think about.
Selection: Keep Running
16:45 - Ladbrokes 'Best Odds Guaranteed On Racing' Open National Hunt Flat Race (2m)
There is limited form to go on, and from what we do have one of the three heading the market is most likely to finish in front. A chance can be taken on Moneygarrow for the Skeltons. A little disappointing when sent off favourite last time, he finished second behind a potentially top-class horse. If able to improve slightly on that, he can finish with his head in front.
Selection: Moneygarrow
