Cheltenham November Meeting
Cheltenham November meeting Day 1 Betting Tips
Cheltenham's biggest meeting outside of The Festival in March starts on Friday. Day one of the November meeting features Grade 2 action for novices over hurdles and fences, as well as handicap action including over the unique cross-country course.
Here are tips for all six races on day one from Cheltenham's November meeting.
1.10pm – Lycetts Insurance Brokers Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle (2m5f)
This meeting used to be strongly associated with the Pipe yard and this year David Pipe sends out two runners for the opener. A chance needs to be taken on AMERICAN SNIPER given the projected soft ground, as he has plenty of Flat horses in his pedigree and has saved his best for better ground to this point. However, conditions are drying and he looks to have been laid out for this, with the return of cheekpieces and a tongue tie expected to bring about improvement.
Selection: American Sniper
1.45pm – Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Handicap Chase (2m)
TRIPLE TRADE finished last season in tremendous form and shaped as though there is more to come when he finished second at the October meeting here. He jumped three out in last place but stayed on strongly to emerge best behind Red Rum winner Dancing On My Own. Sharper for that run, he can continue his reach seam of form from the spring.
Selection: Triple Trade
##2.20pm – SSS Super Alloys Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices' Chase (Grade 2 - 2m)
It would admittedly be a bit of a surprise if any of these horses went on to win the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival in around four months' time. There is not even the sexy novice hurdler making their chasing debut that this race can sometimes provide. Instead, JPR ONE looks the sort of horse to make a much better chaser and he can take this Grade 2. This strapping sort skipped over the fences on his chasing debut and should find Cheltenham's more imposing obstacles no problem.
Selection: JPR One
2.55pm – Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase (3m5½f)
Plenty of big names are set to line up for a race that could provide the best guide to the equivalent race at the Cheltenham Festival in March. DELTA WORK is an old hand around here: as well as finishing fifth in a Cheltenham Gold Cup, he has won the last two runnings of the Cross-Country Chase at the Festival and he even gets 1lb from Galvin here, for all he beat that horse off level weights in March.
Selection: Delta Work
3.30pm – Trustatrader Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2 - 2m5f)
Paul Nicholls has already nominate CAPTAIN TEAGUE as his big hope for next month's Challow Novices' Hurdle at Newbury. Given Nicholls has won that race in each of the last three years, including with Bravemansgame and Stage Star, that clearly lends Captain Teague plenty of respect here. Not that he needs it. He finished third in the Champion Bumper at March's Cheltenham Festival and easily won the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow on his hurdling debut last month. This can be his next stepping stone to Grade 1s.
Selection: Captain Teague
4.05pm – Valda Energy Novices' Handicap Hurdle (2m½f)
After winning two bumpers in France, IMPOSE TOI debuted over hurdles for Nicky Henderson in January and has recorded form figures of 2121 over hurdles, including a couple of wide-margin wins at Ludlow and Exeter which are both known as strong tracks for such races. It would be rare to see a horse with his profile given a handicap mark as low as 121. The handicapper has taken a chance, and his Cheltenham-superfan owner JP McManus probably knows as much. A McManus gamble could be on the cards to round off day one of the Cheltenham November meeting.
Selection: Impose Toi
Cheltenham November meeting Day 2 Betting Tips
Saturday is the feature day of Cheltenham's three-day November meeting. It is the biggest fixture held at the track outside of the March Festival and has been the place where so many champions have started on the road to glory.
Here are tips for all seven races on day two from Cheltenham's November meeting.
12.35pm – JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2 - 2m½f)
At this stage in the season, the French-trained juveniles are generally well ahead of their British and Irish counterparts. That would give MILAN TINO a big shout at the best of times. His form claims are even more persuasive than the average. He finished second in a Listed race for debutants on his own debut and then finished third in a Grade 2 at Auteuil next time.
The first, second, fourth and fifth finished first, second, third and fourth in the same order in a Grade 1 back at Auteuil last weekend. Take the hint: Milan Tino is already verging on Grade 1 quality.
Selection: Milan Tino @ SP
1.10pm – Wienerberger Amateur Jockeys' Handicap Chase (3m1f)
A few Irish challengers lurking near the bottom of the weights could be really dangerous, especially as not many of those near the top of the card jump out as appealing.
The bet in the race could be an each-way look at WAYFINDER. He had seemed to struggle with his wind last year, but an operation seemed to have a positive effect when he came clear of the rest in third for a similar race here in October. He is a talented sort who is worth a chance to build on that.
Selection: Wayfinder each-way @ SP
1.45pm – From The Horse's Mouth Podcast Novices' Chase (Listed - 3m½f)
Mister Coffey jumped the last virtually upsides in April's Grand National, so he is tempting although it is wondered if he might have bigger targets on his agenda. Instead, BROADWAY BOY has the course form to recommend him, having won a handicap hurdle here in April and chased home two-time Stayers Hurdle winner Flooring Porter over this course and distance three weeks ago. He stays well and is open to further improvement aged just five.
Selection: Broadway Boy @ SP
2.20pm – Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase (2m4½f)
This looks a notably open running of this major autumn handicap. If Stage Star is Grade 1 class in open company, he should probably be winning from a mark of 155. With so many having claims, the one who catches the eye at big odds is the Willie Mullins-trained AUTHORIZED ART.
He has been placed in the Galway Plate and Kerry National already this season and is seemingly thought of as a horse for better ground. If Cheltenham gets no more rain than is forecast, then the GoingStick is likely to say it is not appreciably slower than last year, when professed good-ground horse Ga Law won the feature. In short, Authorized Art is bang in form and may have his conditions. He should not be among the outsiders.
Selection: Authorized Art each-way @ SP
2.55pm – Paddy Power Games Handicap Hurdle (3m)
The November meeting used to be dominated by Martin Pipe and son David still gets the odd horse lined up for this fixture. PLACENET catches the eye as an old-school Pipe gamble. The yard tends to know when they get a French import with an exploitable mark and this horse's hurdles figure of 124 is unquestionably attractive on the best of his form. He was mixing it with useful chasers right up until his final run in France and anything like his peak form would have him miles the best-treated in this field.
Selection: Placenet @ SP
3.30pm – Paddy Power Intermediate Handicap Hurdle (2m5f)
A former launchpad for stars is now just a competitive handicap hurdle and the one who jumps out as well treated on recent form is the Olly Murphy-trained RESPLENDENT GREY. He won his first two hurdles starts at a modest level then emerged best of the rest behind Captain Teague in the Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow on his reappearance. A handicap mark of 127 looks pretty low for a horse with his promise and rider Harry Skelton is 5-14 when teaming up with Murphy.
Selection: Resplendent Grey @ SP
4.05pm – Karndean Designflooring Mares' Open National Hunt Flat Race (Listed - 2m½f)
You fancy that if WORLD OF FORTUNES were with a more celebrated trainer that she would be much nearer the top of the betting for this bumper. She is well bred, by Soldier of Fortune from a family of smart jumpers, and her form stacks up with just about any of her rivals. She streaked right away from the field when winning at Wexford when last seen in May and will surely have been thoroughly prepared for a trip to Cheltenham. Most of the rest will have to improve past her if so.
Selection: World of Fortunes @ SP
Cheltenham November Meeting – Day 3 Tips
Sunday is the concluding day of Cheltenham's November Meeting, the biggest meeting of the season at the famous Cotswolds venue outside of The Festival itself in March.
The card on Sunday includes the Greatwood Hurdle (3.30pm), a key handicap contest, and an intriguing Shloer Chase (2.55pm) as Jonbon sets out on his journey for the season.
We've got tips for all six races at Cheltenham on Sunday, where they race from 1.10pm-4.00pm.
1.10pm - mallardjewellers.com Maiden Hurdle (2m½f)
The Ben Pauling-trained TELLHERTHENAME did everything bar win on his hurdles bow at Ascot a couple of weeks ago, giving the well-touted Nicky Henderson newcomer Jango Baie a major scare as they pulled a long way clear in what became a personal scrap.
A nose split them at the post and this once-raced Irish point winner should be able to build on that upped in trip and open his account. Dual bumper winner The Kemble Brewery won here three weeks ago for Kim Bailey and could be the danger.
Selection: Tellherthename
1.45pm - cavani.co.uk Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (2m4f)
ELLE PERFECTA made a winning start to her chasing career at Kilbeggan over this sort of trip in April and ran well in fourth since in Grade 3 novice at the Galway Races in August.
Colm Murphy's charge is unlikely to bump into anything as classy here and the booking of Sean Bowen is a major plus. An opening mark of 127 over fences appears on the lenient side for this Irish raider.
Selection: Elle Perfecta
2.20pm - Jewson Handicap Chase (3m3f)
A marathon in prospect here and while Truckers Lodge will stay the trip, his record first time out makes for a negative against him.
Winner of the Ulster National at Downpatrick over more than three-and-a-half-miles in April, things didn't go to plan for MALINA GIRL in the Scottish version at Ayr soon after.
Gavin Cromwell gave her a spin over hurdles last month at Punchestown to get rid of any cobwebs and she lurks here off a favourable mark.
Selection: Malina Girl
2.55pm - Shloer Chase (Grade 2, 2m)
The first step towards the Queen Mother Champion Chase back here in March awaits JONBON. Nicky Henderson's star is perhaps underrated to a degree, with Constitution Hill and El Fabiolo the only horses to finish in front of him in a 12-race career.
Both of those came in Festival races here. He bagged Grade 1s at Aintree and Sandown in April after his Arkle second here and a big season awaits.
He can kick it off by turning away the likes of Edwardstone and Nube Negra and Editeur Du Gite - all capable performers in their own rights.
Selection: Jonbon
3.30pm - Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (2m½f)
Winner of the Welsh Champion Hurdle in last month's comeback, Nemean Lion is shortlisted now alongside Luccia for Nicky Henderson, though Nico de Boinville partners Iberico Lord instead for the Seven Barrows team.
Having cut out the running here last month, LOOKAWAY stayed going up the hill and won a Grade 2 for Neil King. He's only rated 132 and double-figure odds are worth exploring.
Selection: Lookaway
4.00pm - Turners Open NH Flat Race (Listed, 2m½f)
No shortage of potential on display for the finale. Brechin Castle made a fine opening impression in a Sedgefield bumper for Ben Brookhouse four weeks ago and merits this rise in class.
Fire Flyer for Paul Nicholls and Stratford winner Moon Chime are notables, but WALKS LIKE THE MAN did things nicely in a winning debut at Newton Abbot in October and won't mind testing ground here.
That became something of a sprint finish, but he was motoring at the end and can build on it.
Selection: Walks Like The Man
