Cheltenham Festival: Day 4 Tips
It’s day four of the Cheltenham Festival with another three Grade 1s to get stuck into including the big race of the week, the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Galopin Des Champs will be trying to join a select few and become a three-time winner of Cheltenham’s Blue Ribband event.
We’ve picked out our best bets for all seven races below.
1.20 Cheltenham - 2m1f (New) JCB Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1) (Class 1) (4yo)
The Irish raider, Hello Neighbour, appears to have been disrespected a little in the market after his Dublin Racing Festival success.
He’s the type that will keep progressing given that he doesn’t do much when he hits the front and connections have reported that he’s taken a sizeable step forward from his run at the DRF last month in his homework.
Selection: Hello Neighbour @ 5/1
2.00 Cheltenham - 2m1f (New) William Hill County Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap) (Class 1) (5yo+)
This doesn’t look quite as competitive as previous renewals and Kargese might be the one who can take advantage.
She’s a Grade 1 performer at her peak and if she learns to settle better in the early stages of her races, she’s surely ahead of a handicap mark of 141.
2.40 Cheltenham - 2m4½f (New) Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase (Grade 2) (Class 1) (5yo+)
This might be a bit more open than the betting suggests and Limerick Lace may be capable of gaining another renewal after her success in the race last year.
She hinted at a return to form last time and handles this sort of ground better than many of her rivals so she’s probably been a bit underestimated for this year’s race.
Selection: Limerick Lace @ 11/2
3.20 Cheltenham - 3m (New) Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1) (Class 1) (5yo+)
Plenty of these hold claims, but a chance is taken on Flicker Of Hope at a double-figure price.
He’s been firmly on the up all season and took his form to a new level with a narrow defeat at the Dublin Racing Festival. He should appreciate a return to novice company and looks overpriced.
Selection: Flicker Of Hope @ 14/1
4.00 Cheltenham - 3m2½f (New) Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (Grade 1) (Class 1) (5yo+)
This is a great opportunity for Galopin Des Champs to gain his third Gold Cup success.
Willie Mullins’ stable star has been there and done it, unlike his rivals and he’s looked just as good as ever so far this season.
Selection: Galopin Des Champs @ 8/15
4.40 Cheltenham - 3m2½f (New) St. James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase (Class 2) (5yo+)
Bardenstown Lad arrives in better form than some of these, and he looks like one of the more interesting outsiders in this contest, a race that’s capable of throwing up horses at big prices.
He was a talented chaser back in the day, and with the ground in his favour over many of his rivals, he may be able to hit the frame.
Selection: Bardenstown Lad @ 33/1
5.20 Cheltenham - 2m4½f Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-145)
Kopeck De Mee looks well treated on his French form, and he may be capable of giving Willile Mullins the perfect ending to the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.
He looked like he would relish this step up in trip at Auteuil last time and the handicapper has probably let him in lightly.
Selection: Kopeck De Mee @ 2/1
