The Open Championship Betting Tips

The fourth and final major of the year takes place this week as the best players in the world gather at Royal Troon for the 152nd Open Championship.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is the 11/2 favourite ahead of a stellar list of names featuring major winners like Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and newly-crowned US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.

Morikawa's links love affair to be reignited

Golf fans will have any number of ideas of likely winners of the Claret Jug with Collin Morikawa, a man who has won it before, surely on many shortlists.

Three years have passed since Morikawa's triumph at Royal St George's, three years of mixed fortunes for the American but he is clearly back to somewhere near his best.

The 27-year-old's major record is admirable with five top-tens in 11 starts since his triumph on the Kent coast in 2021 with a third place at this year's Masters and fourth at the USPGA.

And the world No.6 is on the hottest of streaks with six top-tens in his last nine starts culminating in Sunday's tie for fourth at the Scottish Open where he produced four rounds in the 60s at The Renaissance Club.

A two-time major winner who clearly likes links golf, a win is overdue for the likeable Californian and he's as likely as any of his compatriots to complete the US clean sweep of this year's majors.

Tip 1: Collin Morikawa outright winner - 16/1

Fox a big-price threat in open field

Punters will be poring over the weather forecast ahead of four days of links golf and it looks changeable with rain and wind expected.

That will knock out a few big hitters who might not fancy it but won't derail gutsy New Zealander Ryan Fox, who has produced some of his best golf by the seaside.

The Kiwi powerhouse has yet to achieve a top-ten finish in a major but don't let that put you off a player who conquered three links courses to win the Alfred Dunhill in 2022 and has finished in the Irish Open top five at a pair of proper links tests at Portstewart and Ballyliffin.

He is the reigning BMW PGA champion so knows how to win big titles, and while he was never in the mix at last week's Scottish Open, rounds of 67-67-70-70 suggest he's playing well enough.

Tip 2: Ryan Fox outright winner each-way - 125/1

Big-hitting Bryson to bring Troon down to size

The 152nd Open Championship will feature the longest hole in the tournament's history - but that won't unduly bother big-hitting Bryson DeChambeau.

The 623-yard par-five sixth is the hole in question, a monster into the wind though usually played with the breeze behind, but however it plays DeChambeau will likely conquer it.

The American looks like he has the perfect game for a breezy Open - lowish ball flight, booms it miles, a massively-improved short game and strong putter - and can improve on his eighth place at St Andrews two years ago.

He'll be a fair option as an outright bet at 18/1 but makes even more appeal at 3/1 to win a group featuring Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor Hovland, all of whom have question marks against them.

Tip 3: Bryson DeChambeau Group B winner - 3/1
