RBC Heritage Betting Tips

Having been handed signature status on the PGA Tour, the RBC Heritage will see the world's leading players battling it out for the spoils at Harbour Town just a few days after the Masters.

World number one Scottie Scheffler landed the coveted Green Jacket at Augusta for the second time on Sunday and he is 7/2 to win again in South Carolina, although his focus may not entirely be on the golf with his wife due to give birth and his participation in doubt.

Sweden's Ludvig Aberg, who was second on his Masters debut, is available at 12/1, just behind 10/1 Xander Schauffele and 11/1 Rory McIlroy, who will have to wait another year to try to complete the career Grand Slam after missing out on Masters glory again.

Tip 1 - Sam Burns to win and each-way @ 33/1

With Scottie Scheffler's priorities perhaps being elsewhere, this could be the best chance a field has had to get the better of the American this season and Sam Burns is one player who could make the most of this situation.

A five-time PGA Tour winner, the 27-year-old has been through a difficult spell and he failed to make the cut at the Masters, the second tournament in a row when he hasn't played at the weekend.

However, there have been some positive performances from the American in 2024, notably when he tied for third place at the Phoenix Open and tied for sixth at the American Express, and he has been solid off the tee with a total driving ranking of 17th.

With Harbour Town having narrow fairways and small greens, it's imperative the correct side of the fairway is found to give yourself a look at finding the dancefloor, and that is an area where Burns has been thriving.

His course record from four previous visits also makes for good reading, with a ninth on his debut followed by a missed cut, 39th and 15th, but the biggest positive to his chances could be the return to Bermuda grass greens.

Burns thrives on these putting surfaces, with four of his five PGA Tour titles coming on Bermuda surfaces, while his encouraging displays earlier this year at the Phoenix Open and American Express also came on that type of green.

Tip 2 - Winning Margin - After a play-off @ 4/1

With so much quality teeing it up for this limited-size field, there looks to be a high chance of a stacked leaderboard at the top and the 4/1 on the winner to be decided after a play-off provides good value.

The last two champions, Matt Fitzpatrick and Jordan Spieth, both went to extra holes to determine the winner, while a play-off was also required in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2018.

In the 56 editions of the RBC Heritage, a play-off has been needed 16 times, with seven of those coming in the last 13 tournaments.

It promises to be another tight affair with a bigger purse, more FedEx Cup points and a nice plaid jacket on offer, so expect more than the standard 72 holes to be required.

The Course

Harbour Town Golf Links - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - 7,100 Yards

Harbour Town is a Pete Dye designed, relatively short, ‘linksy’ track that places a premium on accuracy, both from the tee, and the fairways as the players face a heavily tree-lined course with small, well-guarded greens. Indeed, it is often not good enough to simply hit the fairways, players need to be on the right side to attack often well hidden, slopey, hole locations. The profile of the winner here is very consistent, and this is reflected in the market. Short hitters, who are intelligent, accurate, iron players do well. The players will need to putt well on fast greens and to be patient. There are a lot of birdie opportunities, but misplaced shots will be severely punished.
