Abu Dhabi Championship Tips

When the European tour gets the opportunity to go to the middle east, it is always a treat for Golf fans around the world. At one point, we had six events based around the Arabian Peninsula but now we are treated to just three events here during the tour, which has only boosted the popularity of the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Sitting on the regular European Tour until 2019, this event was moved up in stature to be a part of the Rolex series in 2019, meaning more prize money and a higher standard of competition. However, that isn't the biggest alteration to this event as the venue changed from Abu Dhabi Golf Club to the Yas Links, located on Yas Island and in 2023, it was announced that the event date would change for future events.

2024 Abu Dhabi Championship Tips

The fourth Rolex Series event of the season takes place this week, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links, which is the penultimate tournament of the DP World Tour season.

A stellar 70-player field, headlined by Rory McIlroy, will battle it out in the United Arab Emirates before the top 50 in the Race to Dubai standings then contest next week's DP World Tour Championship.

Tip 1 - Tyrrell Hatton tin win @ 13/2

While plenty of attention will be on McIlroy, there is a lot to like about the chances of Tyrrell Hatton, who won this event by four strokes in 2021 when it was played at Abu Dhabi GC.

Now plying his trade on the LIV Tour, the 33-year-old finished sixth in 2022 when the event was switched to Yas Links, before ending up seventh 12 months later.

It is perhaps no surprise to see Hatton impress at this links course, as he enjoys these types of layouts, having won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for a third time last month.

Among other courses, Yas Links designer Kyle Philips is also the architect behind Kingsbarns, one of the venues used in the Alfred Dunhill, so it bodes well that Hatton has performed well at that Scottish course.

Tip 2 - Sebastian Soderberg to win and each-way @ 80/1

Another player who could get in the mix this week is Sebastian Soderberg, who has been forced to show his mental fortitude this season after blowing an eight-shot lead at the Scandinavian Mixed.

It has taken the Swede a bit of time to get over that collapse and he doesn't arrive in great form, having missed his last two cuts, but he is a player that likes a links test and that was evident in his runner-up finish last year.

The 34-year-old also has strong form at Kingsbarn, with his last two rounds at the course producing scores of -4 and -10, and his ranking of third in strokes gained approach on the DP World Tour is another positive.

With Soderberg also seventh in putts per green in regulation and 14th in putts per round, he looks capable of getting in the mix and is a solid each-way play at big odds.

Tip 3 - Winning Margin - After a play-off @ 4/1

Given the quality of this field, a tight battle for the title could be in store and the 4/1 available on the tournament to be won after a play-off is worth looking at.

The last two editions at Yas Links have been won by just one stroke, Belgian Thomas Pieters doing the business in 2022 before French ace Victor Perez claimed the spoils last year - that is evidence of how close it has been.

Recent events on the DP World Tour have also gone down to the wire, with the Andalucia Masters and Genesis Championship both needing extra holes to find a winner.

In fact, a play-off has been required in five of the last eight events on the European circuit and another nail-biting finish could be in store this week.

Bet In-play: - If Victor Perez's victory in 2023 tells us anything it is that you can never rule a player out after the first round. Perez sat seven strokes behind Luke Donald after the first round and finished 11 shots under Donald at the end. It was only after an exceptional second round that Perez was taken into consideration as the winner.

Bet Each Way: There are over 100 Golfers in each Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, so on-paper you had a 100/1 chance of winning if you don't take skill into consideration. If you take the each way betting market into consideration, your chances of coming out with a profit significantly increases. With a highly skilled player, you might not get the 20/1 odds you will get for the winner market but this is still a fantastic way to win when golf betting.

The ever cosmopolitan European Tour heads out to the gulf this week for one of its richest and most prestigious tournaments at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. A change of venue means that the the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, which saw high profile and high-quality victors in the last 15 years. The likes of defending champion Lee Westwood, Rickie Fowler, and Tommy Fleetwood (twice), will be looked back on, while the Yas Links course is the future of the Abu Dhabi Championship.

The Yas Links Golf course lives up to the luxury in the name and this Kyle Philips designed course lives up to the name, the wide open course is incredibly well sculpted and requires the greatest of accuracy whilst teeing off. The fast fairways and the hard but true greens provide some fantastic Golf action but those that get trapped in the bunkers may see their trophy hopes fade in the grains of sand.

The true beauty of the course comes from the surroundings, with a number of holes on the water, this provides a difficult obstacle for players but one they would surely look to overcome just for the views. Fans that turn up to the event get far more than a fantastic day of Golf, they get the luxurious views and the best Abu Dhabi has to offer.

Who was our 2023 Abu Dhabi Championship Tip?

Our betting tip for the 2023 rendition of the Abu Dhabi Championship was Robert Macintyre the hard-hitting Scot started the event at 20/1 but unfortunately after being consistently above average for the the event hitting an average score of 69.5, the Scot could only muster a top 20 finish, something worthy of a payout if bettors placed a bet Each Way. You can find what we said about Macintyre's chances below.

"Robert Macintyre's performance during last week's hero cup tells you everything you need to know about the Scot's chances going into this event, he sits at decent odds of 20/1 as it stands but we expect them to drop before the event takes place. However, as always, we recommend taking this bet each way as even if Macintyre finishes in the low each way positions, a 1/5 win at 20/1 still provides a profit."
