10 Best Summer Transfer Window 2024 Deals

Premier League clubs spent £2.08 billion on transfer window done deals this summer. That’s not quite as much as the record but it’s still a huge amount of money.

Some players already look overpriced as we enter the opening weeks of the new season, while others are nailed-on bargains.

Bet on Football Transfers

BetUK offers transfer window bets but there’s no way of knowing who will prove a success in the Premier League, and who will be a total flop.

We have, though, looked over the summer transfer window to find 10 deals that really do offer value to the clubs involved.

Some of these transfers cost clubs nothing, while others breached the £100m mark. All of them were worthwhile.

So, let’s take a look at the 10 best summer transfers of 2024…

Summer Transfer Window 2024: Best Deals

Our list features the eight best Premier League summer signings and two top deals completed on the continent. Here’s our list in no particular order:

Federico Chiesa

Juventus to Liverpool | £10m

Injuries affected his time at Juventus but there's no doubt Liverpool have got a steal by landing Federico Chiesa for just £10m. Last season he scored nine goals for Juve from the wing – a strong tally.

Juve had to sell to avoid losing him on a free transfer when his contract expired next summer. Liverpool needed someone with versatility across their forward line, especially with Mohamed Salah planning to leave next year.

Our Verdict: Chiesa to Liverpool is a deal that makes sense for everyone and a bargain at £10m.

Ismaila Sarr

Marseille to Crystal Palace | £12.5m

Ismaila Sarr returns to England having left Watford to Marseille only last summer. Crystal Palace needed a replacement for Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich in July for a hefty fee, and Sarr has penned a five-year contract for just £12.5m.

He's been used predominantly as a substitute in Palace's opening games of the season and there is a lot of competition in the Eagles' forward ranks. Given his Premier League experience with Watford, he should fit in nicely at Selhurst Park.

Our Verdict: Sarr might not make an immediate impact but he provides great cover for Palace and could become a key man as the season unfolds.

Raheem Sterling

Chelsea to Arsenal | Loan

Cut adrift by Chelsea, Raheem Sterling jumped at the opportunity to move to Arsenal on loan this summer. His transfer is perfect for all parties. Chelsea get dead wood off their books, Arsenal have a free addition to their forward ranks, and Sterling gets to play.

Still only 29, Sterling will hope to play his way back into England contention while gunning for the title against his former club Manchester City. This is a case of a player moving to a better team on loan, rather than dropping down the league.

Our Verdict: No one loses with this transfer. Chelsea are happy, Arsenal are delighted, and Sterling is content.

Crysencio Summerville

Leeds to West Ham | £25m

Summerville was named the Championship's best player last season when guiding Leeds to another playoff final defeat. The Dutchman's quick feet and pinpoint shooting now matches his confidence. He could be a real asset for West Ham this season.

He's exactly the sort of entertaining player that Julen Lopetegui's squad needs. West Ham spent more than £100m and had their squad settled long before the transfer window deadline. Summerville could well dazzle.

Our Verdict: Summerville wasn’t the main man when Leeds were last in the Premier League but his return to the top flight was expected. He should fit in nicely at the London Stadium.

Jack Clarke

Sunderland to Ipswich | £15m

Tottenham never seemed interested in Jack Clarke once they'd signed him from Leeds for £8.5m in 2019 and the forward rightly left for Sunderland two years ago. His performances for the Black Cats earned him a return to the Premier League this summer with Ipswich, who were keen to spend money upon their promotion.

Clarke didn't impress with Spurs but will be given far more chances at Portman Road. He's not necessarily the saviour who will keep them up this season but he's definitely worth the £15m investment.

Our Verdict: Clarke is worth keeping an eye on. An impressive season at Ipswich and he could land himself a move to a bigger club next summer.

Ilkay Gundogan

Barcelona to Manchester City | Free transfer

Manchester City can afford to replace anyone in their squad but happily welcomed back Ilkay Gundogan after his one season at Barcelona. The former Germany international captained City's treble-winning side of 2022/23 and brings experience back to the Etihad.

Gundogan could end up as one of the best free transfers of the past decade. He won't play every game – City have a squad deep enough for that – but he'll be a major presence in the dressing room.

Our Verdict: This was the easiest transfer decision City have ever made.

Amadou Onana

Everton to Aston Villa | £50m

Amadou Onana has been one of Everton's rare glimmers of positivity over the past couple of seasons. The Toffees gladly took £50m off Aston Villa for him, but at what cost? Everton started the 2024/25 season badly, while Onana scored two in his first three games for Villa.

He looks comfortable alongside Youri Tielemans. Unai Emery must be delighted with the purchase.

Our Verdict: Everton needed to sell and got good money for a very good player. Everyone seems just about happy with the transfer.

Manuel Ugarte

PSG to Manchester United | £42m

Manchester United have a scatter-gun approach to player recruitment but Manuel Ugarte could be remembered as one of the best signings of the 2024 summer transfer window. The Uruguayan arrives from PSG with a remit to anchor United's midfield and protect the defence.

His presence is needed. United's Casemiro laboured in the early-season defeat to Liverpool and United had already sold Scott McTominay to Napoli before Ugarte was announced.

Our Verdict: United need a presence like Ugarte to act as a metronome in midfield. He should do a lot better than either Casemiro or the new-departed McTominay.

Kylian Mbappe

PSG to Real Madrid | Free Transfer The first of our two non-Premier League transfers, Kylian Mbappe's move from PSG to Real Madrid had been expected for years. However, what wasn't expected was that Real would wait for his contract to end, secure the free transfer, and then pay Mbappe a £105m signing-on bonus.

Mbappe joins a team of Galacticos that won La Liga and the Champions League last season. He is everything a Real Madrid mega-signing should be: amazing at football with a profile that goes beyond the game.

Our Verdict: Real and Mbappe are the big winners here but PSG get nothing for keeping him for one final season in 2023/24. The Ligue 1 club should have sold up last summer.

Victor Osimhen

Napoli to Galatasaray | Loan The second of our two non-Premier League transfers actually involves an English club. Victor Osimhen was on Chelsea's radar but the Blues couldn't agree to his salary demands. Napoli needed to get the Nigeria international off their books so sent him on loan to Galatasaray after England's transfer window closed.

Gala will pay a £5m loan fee for one of the world's hottest properties who is entering the prime of his career. He's signed a new contract in Italy too, which protects his transfer value. Don't be surprised if he shines in Turkey and is then sold for big money next summer.

Our Verdict: We’re surprised Chelsea didn’t jump on Osimhen, especially when you consider some of their other deals this summer. He’ll be available again next year but at a much-inflated price.
