Olympics Football - Gold Medal Match Tips

The Olympics have been a roaring success and the hosts have the men's football final they craved with France Under 23s taking on Spain Under 23s in the Gold Medal match at the Parc des Princes on Friday.

It promises to be a thrilling climax to what has been a fantastic fortnight of sport in the French capital and the home nation will be desperate to finish it off with another gold medal.

Les Bleus have made fairly comfortable progress to this stage and Thierry Henry's unbeaten side are warm 5/4 favourites to finish the job in style, with Spain priced up at 23/10.

A partisan crowd will be roaring on their side and we've picked out the best bets for what should be a cracking contest.

Tip 1 - France to win & both teams @ 4/1

France eased through the group stage by winning all three matches without conceding and they showed their ruthless side by plundering seven goals along the way.

However, things became more serious in the quarter-finals for Henry's men who edged past highly-fancied Argentina 1-0 in a bad-tempered affair.

Such a contest probably served the hosts well, though, as things had been comfortable up until that point and they had to work hard to overcome Egypt in the semi-finals.

The Pharaohs topped their section ahead of finalists Spain with an unbeaten record, but found France too hot to handle in the semis, going down 3-1 after extra time despite taking the lead after 62 minutes.

That goal for Egypt will give Spain hope that they too can breach the hosts and backing them to score in a French win looks the best bet.

La Roja have scored in every match in this tournament and they have spread the scoring around with eight players weighing in with at least one goal.

Barcelona star Fermin Lopez has bagged four goals for his country in this competition and they could take advantage of any possible nerves in the home ranks on such a big occasion.

Tip 2 - Over 2.5 goals @ 59/50

Finals can often be cagey affairs, but there may be scope to expect at least three goals in Paris on Friday.

France's matches are averaging two goals per game in this tournament, while Spain are averaging a whopping 3.2 goals per match from their five outings and both sides like to play on the front foot.

Such is the pressure on the host nation, nerves could play a part in the early stages and that could play into the hands of Spain who may be able to play with more freedom.

Goals have been easy to come by for both sides and it would be no surprise to see more scored at the Parc des Princes in what could be a lively encounter.

Tip 3 - Fermin Lopez to score @ 13/4

Morocco's Sofiane Rahimi is in the box seat for the golden boot with six goals, but France's Jean-Philippe Mateta and Spain's Fermin Lopez are locked on four each and both players could play a scoring role in the final.

However, at 13/4 Lopez looks the better-value option to get on the scoresheet after bagging in both knockout games in this competition.

The Barcelona midfielder loves to strike from deep and he poses a genuine threat to the hosts at a decent price.
