FA Cup Quarter-Final Tips
FA Cup Quarter-Final Tips
The FA Cup has reached the quarter-final stage and all eight teams left in the competition are just one win away from making it through to a Wembley semi-final.
The four quarter-final ties will be played across the weekend, starting with a Midlands derby between Wolves and Coventry on Saturday lunchtime and concluding with a blockbuster showdown involving Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Here are our best tips from all four of the quarter-final matches.
Wolves v Coventry - Wolves to win and both teams to score @ 47/20
Wolves have been exceeding expectations this season and they will head into their clash with Coventry, the lowest-ranked team left in the FA Cup, having won four of their last five.
Gary O'Neil has seen his side win three straight home games and they should be able to outgun their Championship visitors, although it could prove an entertaining contest.
Coventry are certainly capable of getting on the scoresheet, as the Sky Blues have scored in 13 consecutive away matches in league and cup fixtures. They have put five past Rotherham in the league and Maidstone in the FA Cup over recent weeks but the Premier League team should come out on top.
Manchester City v Newcastle - Man City to win and both teams to score @ 7/5
Last season's treble winners Manchester City have been at their imperious best over recent months and they are unbeaten in 21 matches across all competitions, 18 of which have ended in victories.
That run includes a 3-2 Premier League success over Newcastle in January and a similar high-scoring victory could be on the cards for the Citizens on Saturday evening as they aim to make it through to the FA Cup semi-finals for the sixth successive season.
Newcastle have not won at the Etihad Stadium since 2014 and they have been suspect defensively this season, emphasised by a run of just one clean sheet in their last eight games. However, they have scored in 13 consecutive matches and both of those sequences look likely to be extended this weekend.
Chelsea v Leicester - Over 3.5 goals @ 27/20
This is a repeat of the 2021 FA Cup final, which Leicester won 1-0, but Sunday's quarter-final tie at Stamford Bridge should provide more entertainment in the final third.
Since losing the EFL Cup final to Liverpool in extra-time at the end of February, Chelsea have beaten both Leeds and Newcastle 3-2 and drawn 2-2 with Brentford, a run that has emphasised that attack is perhaps the best form of defence for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Championship leaders Leicester are certainly having no problems in the final third - they are averaging exactly two goals per game in the league this season - and they can contribute to a high-scoring cup tie.
Manchester United v Liverpool - Manchester United to win @ 11/4
The tie of the weekend on paper comes from Old Trafford and while many will expect Liverpool to get the better of Manchester United, the Red Devils may be more refreshed and ready to book their place in the last four.
United have had a full eight days to prepare for this game, while Liverpool, who are still fighting for trophies on multiple fronts, were in Europa League action on Thursday night against Sparta Prague.
Jurgen Klopp's side have faced a hectic schedule in recent weeks and their injury list has been mounting. The youngsters within the squad have been stepping up to the plate, but this could prove a game too far for them against a United side whose hopes of winning silverware this season rest solely on the FA Cup.
