Euro 2024 Daily Accumulator: 19/06/2024

The sixth day of action at Euro 2024 is headlined by Germany’s clash against Hungary in Group A as the tournament begins its second matchday.

With the first round of fixtures producing some fantastic match ups which delivered goals galore, the hope will be that the entertainment continues as Croatia face Albania to kick off the proceedings on Wednesday.

The hosts will then look to claim another victory in Stuttgart, before Scotland take on Switzerland in the evening fixture as Steve Clark’s side face the prospect of an early exit from the tournament if they lose again.

Tip 1: Croatia to win and both teams to score @ 29/10

Croatia’s start to Euro 2024 couldn't have gone much worse as they were soundly beaten 3-0 by Spain at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

That now leaves Zlatko Dalić’s side in a precarious position in Group B, as their defeat, coupled with Italy’s win against Albania, leaves them needing to record a positive result here against the former in order to escape the ‘group of death’.

But even despite their poor performance in their opening fixture, expect Luka Modric and his teammates to rally and avoid losing back-to-back matches at the same major tournament for the first time since 1996.

With plenty of experience amongst their ranks, Croatia possess everything they need at their disposal to bounce back and a look at their six consecutive victories before this tournament suggests that a win against Albania remains likely.

It should be expected that they won’t have it all their own way though, as their opposition played well in their 2-1 defeat to Italy, and with their backline being exposed so heavily by Spain, keeping a clean sheet here still feels a big ask.

Tip 2: Germany to win and Florian Wirtz to score anytime @ 2/1

Even though Germany headed into Euro 2024 as a slight outsider to win the competition, a 5-1 victory against Scotland in their opening match once again proved their capabilities when featuring in major tournament football.

The three-time European Championship victors easily put the Scots to the sword with a ruthless display in Munich which was headlined by brilliant performances from Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz in particular.

The latter of those enjoyed an incredible season with Bayer Leverkusen prior to this tournament, winning the domestic double with his side whilst scoring 18 times across 49 club appearances.

It only took the 21-year-old ten minutes to continue that fine form on the international stage, striking from just outside the box to open the scoring for his nation on Friday and he looks likely to replicate that again versus Hungary, a team who Germany should routinely beat thanks to their superior quality across the pitch.

Tip 3: Switzerland to win @ 10/13

After waiting three years to return to major international tournament football, Scotland were soundly beaten 5-1 by Germany in their opening fixture.

As well as conceding five goals in any match for the first time since May 2012, defender Ryan Porteous was also dismissed for a poor tackle on Ilkay Gundogan as the Scots endured an embarrassing night in Munich.

Manager Steve Clarke was adamant after the match that he ‘can turn things around quickly’, but after Switzerland defeated Hungary 3-1 in their first Group A outing, Scotland are likely to find the going tough again in this clash versus one of Europe’s most underrated sides.

Kwadwo Duah, Michel Aebischer and Breel Embolo did the damage for the Swiss on matchday one, a result which already leaves them poised to reach the knockout rounds of a sixth consecutive major tournament.

Murat Yakin’s side have additionally now only lost one of their last 15 matches and look good value to beat Scotland and seal their place in Group A’s top two spots.
