Europa League Quarter Final Predictions
The UEFA Europa League quarter-final second legs get underway on Thursday night as teams battle it out for a place in the semi-finals.
Tip 1: Lazio to go through @ 6/4
Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt hold a 2-0 lead going into their second leg at the Stadio Olimpico, but Lazio can’t be ruled out at this stage, especially on home turf in the Eternal City.
Plenty of sides have come undone against Glimt on the synthetic turf of Aspmyra Stadion in recent seasons, but Thursday’s second leg on Italian soil promises a far different affair. Lazio boasts a 13-match unbeaten streak at home in the Europa League, and Marco Baroni’s men appear well-equipped to claw back the two-goal gap and book their place in the semi-finals.
Tip 2: Lyon to go through @ 9/4
The Europa League has offered Manchester United some much-needed respite this season, with their Premier League form leaving them languishing in 14th place.
A 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United last time out only served to expose the Red Devils’ ongoing defensive woes, capping off a difficult afternoon for Altay Bayındır between the posts.
Drafted in to replace the underperforming Andre Onana, Bayındır gifted Newcastle their fourth goal, leaving manager Ruben Amorim with a key call to make regarding his starting goalkeeper.
On the other side, Lyon have been in strong form, suffering just one defeat in their last nine outings across all competitions and winning four of their previous five away fixtures. With the tie finely balanced at 2-2 following the first leg at Groupama Stadium, Lyon look well-placed to snatch a result at Old Trafford and punch their ticket to the semi-finals.
Tip 3: Eintracht Frankfurt to win @ 27/20
Much like Manchester United, Tottenham have found some solace in the Europa League this season amid their Premier League struggles.
But Spurs’ continental campaign could also hit a wall on Thursday with a tough trip to Deutsche Bank Park to face Eintracht Frankfurt.
The first leg in north London ended 1-1, but Spurs may face an uphill battle in the home of the 2021/22 Europa League champions.
Die Adler are unbeaten in their last 12 Europa League games on home soil, winning the most recent four without conceding a single goal.
With a 4-2 loss at Wolves still fresh in their minds, Tottenham may lack the cutting edge needed to break through in Frankfurt, and Thursday could well mark the end of their European run under Ange Postecoglou.
Tip 4: Athletic Bilbao to win and both teams to score @ 19/10
It could be a rough evening for all three British sides still in the tournament, with Rangers facing a daunting trip to Athletic Bilbao following a goalless first leg at Ibrox.
Bilbao are a force to be reckoned with on home turf, currently riding an eight-game unbeaten streak across all competitions at San Mamés.
Gers may find a chance or two, especially with Athletic managing just one clean sheet in their last five home outings, but the hosts are likely to have the edge needed to dash the Gers’ hopes of another Europa League final appearance.
