Europa League: Matchday Six Betting Preview

This week provides more action from the UEFA Europa League, with British teams getting set for matchday six in this season’s new-look league phase.

There’s a battle of Britain to look forward to with some added spice on Thursday night, as former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou takes his Tottenham Hotspur side to Ibrox to face Rangers.

Manchester United also hit the road, as Ruben Amorim’s men face a tricky trip to the Doosan Arena to face Czech side Viktoria Plzen.

Covering both games in Glasgow and Plzen, we have two matchday six tips to consider for Thursday’s Europa League action.

Tip 1: Rangers v Tottenham over 3.5 total goals @ 11/8

While Rangers and Spurs have ground to make up in the Scottish Premiership and Premier League respectively, both find themselves in contention to make the Europa League knockout stages.

Both teams are sat on 10 points after the first five rounds ahead of what will be an interesting battle at Ibrox this week.

The return of a former Celtic manager will always attract extra attention from the Ibrox faithful, as Rangers look to pile more pressure on Postecoglou.

Spurs conceded four goals against rivals Chelsea at the weekend, with the Blues punishing some poor decision-making by the Lilywhites backline.

Tottenham looked good going forward in that game, a 4-3 defeat, and the north London outfit are capable of punishing any Gers’ mistakes at the back.

With the Light Blues scoring four goals against both FCSB and more recently Nice in the Europa League this season, Thursday’s game should have plenty of goals and going with over 3.5 total goals in the game gets the nod here.

Tip 2: Viktoria Plzen double chance @ 13/10

Having suffered a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford at the hands of Nottingham Forest at the weekend, the scale of the task ahead of Amorim at Man Utd has become even clearer to the Portuguese tactician.

While he will be looking to bring his own players to the club in the January transfer window, Amorim must make do with what he has for Thursday’s trip to Viktoria Plzen.

The Czech outfit are unbeaten in their last 14 home games in the Europa League, winning an impressive 13 of those games.

Real Sociedad were the last side to go to Doosan Arena in this competition and even the in-form La Liga outfit failed to come away from the game with anything to show for their efforts after a 2-1 defeat.

United are still finding their way under their new manager and Forest were able to exploit issues in the Red Devils’ defence almost at will at Old Trafford at the weekend.

This should give Plzen hope of causing an upset on Thursday and the hosts are good value at 13/10 to either win or draw against United in this one.
