World Matchplay of Darts Preview
World Matchplay Darts Betting Tips & Preview
After the Summer of 2021 brought sports fans around the world to its knees, the world of darts is jumping for joy with the 2021 World Matchplay. Last year, Dimitri Van den Bergh shocked fans worldwide as he became the first unseeded player since James Wade in 2006 to reach the final. The Belgian also became the first debutant to win the World Matchplay in a thrilling story that no one expected. Only three people have won consecutive World Matchplay's; Phil Taylor, Rod Harrington and Michael Van Gerwen. Can the 27-year old add his name to the list of legends? Find out in our darts betting tips.
World Matchplay 2021 Outright Winner Bets
With three first-time winners in a row, it is clear that the reign of dominance in World Matchplay's is finally coming to an end. It was feared that Michael Van Gerwen would have an equally as dominant run as Phil Taylor. However, since Taylor defeated MVG in 2016, the Dutchman has failed to make it past the second round. Our pick to win this year's competition is another player who hasn't won the Matchplay yet but came agonizingly close to winning the Premier League this year, Jose De Sousa.
World Matchplay 2021 Finalists Bets
If our prediction of Jose De Sousa winning is correct, then that means that the following names can't be in the final of the World Matchplay in 2021.
- Michael Van Gerwen - Peter Wright - Gary Anderson - Nathan Aspinall
All of these names are credible contenders to win the entire competition, which makes predicting the second half of the draw very difficult. However, we believe that whoever makes it through these gruelling ties will win the entire tournament. The question that remains is who from the first half joins them? Some of the big names include:
Jonny Clayton Rob Cross Glen Durrant James Wade
However, we're not going to include any of those players in our predictions, as we believe that Dimitri Van den Burgh will face off against the man who beat him twice in the Premier League. This sets up a final between Dimitri Van den Burgh and Jose De Sousa. When the two have faced off recently, De Sousa has had the better of the action, which is why he was our chosen winner.
Van den Burgh Vs De Sousa final: 26/1
World Matchplay 2021 Quarter One Betting Tips
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Gerwyn Price | 13/8 |
Dimitri Van den Burgh | 3/1 |
Jonny Clayton | 7/2 |
Dirk van Duijvenbode | 13/2 |
Dave Chisnall | 9/1 |
Devon Petersen | 18/1 |
Jermaine Wattimena | 22/1 |
Vincent Van Der Voort | 28/1 |
With both the Premier League winner and last season's World Matchplay winner in the first quarter, it is very difficult to pick an individual winner from this sector. That is before you take into consideration Gerwyn Price or Dave Chisnall. Of course, In our predictions, we're backing Dimitri Van den Burgh to make the final, which means that we'll also be backing him to be the winner of Q1.
World Matchplay 2021 Quarter Two Betting Tips
Player | Odds |
---|---|
James Wade | 11/4 |
Rob Cross | 4/1 |
Brendan Cross | 5/1 |
Krzysztof Ratajski | 5/1 |
Luke Humphries | 7/1 |
Ross Smith | 15/2 |
Callan Rydz | 8/1 |
Glen Durrant | 28/1 |
After a dismal Premier League campaign, Glen Durrant finds himself at 28/1 to make the Semi-Final. After failing to pick up a point, it looks like we should expect one of last year's favourites to lose in his first game. It's difficult to predict who will win the second quarter, but we're feeling confident that Krzysztof Ratajski will make it through to the Semi-Final, but it should be between him and Rob Cross.
World Matchplay 2021 Quarter Three Betting Tips
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Jose De Sousa | 9/4 |
Peter Wright | 9/4 |
Michael Smith | 13/2 |
Joe Cullen | 8/1 |
Ryan Searle | 8/1 |
Gabriel Clemens | 10/1 |
Chris Dobey | 10/1 |
Danny Noppert | 18/1 |
The man who we're expecting to be the winner of the entire tournament is joint-favourite to win Q3. Looking at our predictions, he may face a tough match-up against either Peter Wright or Chris Dobey in the Quarter-Finals, but Jose De Sousa should have enough to win the tournament and win Q3.
World Matchplay 2021 Quarter Four Betting Tips
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Michael Van Gerwen | 5/4 |
Gary Anderson | 33/10 |
Nathan Aspinall | 11/2 |
Stephen Bunting | 7/1 |
Daryl Gurney | 12/1 |
Mervyn King | 12/1 |
Ian White | 14/1 |
Damon Heta | 25/1 |
Considering the abysmal run of form Michael Van Gerwen has been on since his last World Matchplay victory in 2016, it's a surprise to see the Dutchman as a heavy favourite. As Gary Anderson and Nathan Aspinall could face each other in the second round, betting for one or the other is difficult. However, we backed Gary Anderson to win the entire tournament last year and he ended up a finalist. This year we'll back him to lose in the Semi-Final but win Q4.
Gary Anderson Q4 Winner: 33/10
