Premier League Darts - Night Four Tips
Michael van Gerwen bragged that even playing badly he was too good for the field when winning Week Three of the Premier League, and that should guarantee a response in Newcastle on Thursday.
Van Gerwen certainly didn’t produce his best form prevailing in Glasgow, where he also went top of the table, but it was good enough and the rest are going to have to step up at the Utilita Arena if they are to ensure the Dutchman and seven-time champion doesn’t power off into the sunset.
Michael Smith vs Nathan Aspinall
Nathan Aspinall, one of two players yet to get off the mark after three rounds of this year’s Premier League, is showing few signs of encouragement as he prepares to take on Michael Smith.
Bully Boy was the winner on the opening night, sits second in the table and while he can be inconsistent, that's considerably more promising than what we are seeing from the Asp.
On Monday, Aspinall suffered a first-hurdle fall at Players Championship 3, beaten 6-2 by Rowby-John Rodriguez and averaging just 90. And that’s simply not good enough.
Tip - Michael Smith to win @ 7/10
Rob Cross vs Luke Humphries
World champ Luke Humphries said last week after flops in Players Championships 1 and 2 that he would pick up and duly obliged in Glasgow with a run to the Week Three final.
In Week Four he takes on Rob Cross, who is struggling to win matches this term. Going into this week, Voltage had won just four matches across eight different events this year and continued the rut by losing his opener in PC3 on Monday, toppled by William O’Connor.
Humphries is all about confidence and last week’s Premier League efforts should see an even better performance.
Tip 2 Luke Humphries to win & most 180s @ 4/5
Peter Wright vs Luke Littler
Besied Aspinall, Peter Wright is the other member of the eight-man field still awaiting a first win - and that wait is likely to go on at least another week.
Snakebite has to deal with the game’s newest star, Luke Littler, on Thursday and all the numbers, averages and confidence, suggest the 17-year-old wins this with something in hand.
Littler is averaging 12 points more than Wright after just three rounds of Premier League action and it’s hard to see the youngster not winning this with plenty in hand.
Tip 3 - Luke Littler -3.5 @ 23/20
Gerwyn Price vs Michael van Gerwen
There will be plenty of tension when bitter rivals Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen toe the oche, with neither man at the peak of their powers just yet.
Certainly Van Gerwen was some way off his best last Thursday night - and still won - while Price is a model of inconsistency.
The Green Machine looks short enough given the scrapes he got into in Glasgow - twice surviving match darts against him - and Price could be anything.
The Iceman is averaging a maximum every 4.5 legs, so perhaps backing a dearth of 180s is a way into this one.
Tip 4 - Under 5.5 match 180s @ 21/10

Who will win night four of the Darts Premier League?
Newcastle always provides a fantastic atmosphere for the Darts Premier League and it is without a doubt one of the best nights in the calendar. We think that the atmosphere on this night may well play into the hands of certain players. Our final four for this night is Nathan Aspinall Vs Luke Humphries and Luke Littler Vs Michael Van Gerwen. The crowd will be right behind Littler and could make it a little hostile for his opposition, which we think will be enough to push Littler beyond Michael Van Gerwen and beat Luke Humphries in the final to win his first night of Premier League Darts.
From the predictions above, the two semi-final matches in Berlin will be Michael Van Gerwen Vs Gerwyn Price and Luke Littler Vs Luke Humphries. From our night one predictions, we believe that these two matches will also happen on night one. However, we have Price and Littler winning those matches, we believe Van Gerwen and Humphries will win on night two, with Michael Van Gerwen winning the night.
