Bet on the Arkle Novices’ Chase

About the Arkle Chase

The Arkle Novices Chase (also known as the Arkle Chase Challenge Trophy) is one of the many Grade 1 races at the Cheltenham Festival.

The race is open to horses aged five years or older and is run on the Old Course at the Cheltenham Festival. The race was introduced to the Cheltenham Festival in 1969, replacing the Cotswold Chase, moving to the opening day of the festival in 1980.

It is the second race of the festival and winners of this race tend to move onto one of the most prestigious races in UK horse racing, the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

One element of this race that may come as a surprise to novice bettors is that a mix of horses are used in this race with Mares winning this race on occasion. It is a rarity but Put the Kettle On became the first mare to win the race in 2020 since 1980.
