Spanish La Liga Betting Odds
Bet on La Liga at BetUK
When betting on La Liga, we know that the vast majority of bettors are going to be betting on two teams, Barcelona and Real Madrid. These two clubs are the dominant forces in La Liga and the most likely to win the league or perform well in the European competitions.
Since 2003/04, the only club to stop Barcelona and Real Madrid winning La Liga has been Atlético Madrid, who were victorious in 2013-14 and 2020-21. So, when placing a bet on the winner of La Liga, it is advisable to only look at the odds for these three teams.
Betting on the Winner of La Liga
Spain’s premier division - known as La Liga, is home to some of the best teams in the world and a lot of these teams find themselves overshadowed by the giants known as Barcelona and Real Madrid. The likes of Valencia and Atletico Madrid have won the competition in the 2000’s but in the last 20 years, the title has been won by ‘Barca’ or Real on 17 occasions. Betting against them isn’t advised! However, if any team will stop the giants in the upcoming season it will be Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone has done an incredible job at the helm and defied the betting odds more times than we can count.
In recent seasons, Atleti have been somewhat off the pace but still managed to secure Champions League qualification against tough opposition. If they can find consistency next season, the Real Madrid ‘Super team’ will have to be at their best to stay ahead.
Betting on top four in La Liga
Similarly to the English Premier League, the top four teams in Spain progress to the Champions League, European football’s elite competition.
With Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, three of the four Champions League spots are likely taken up at the start of the season. In-fact it has been 13 years since either of these teams failed to qualify for the Champions League but with Girona finishing above Atletico last season, questions are going to be asked of them in 2024/25.
At the start of the campaign, it doesn’t look like Atleti will struggle to get top four as the pack behind them were significantly further behind than expected. With Girona’s squad weakening, the race for the 4th spot in La Liga will likely go to one of these teams:
- Girona
- Athletic Bilbao
- Real Sociedad
- Villarreal
- Real Betis
However, the teams that sit in the top half of the League have weakened in quality with teams in the Champions League or Premier League poaching their top players.
Betting on La Liga’s Top Goalscorer
Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr - three fantastic options for the top goalscorer award and they come from just one club! We believe that it is likely that a player from a different club will win the individual top goalscorer award even if all three Real Madrid players perform well. It’s VERY rare that clubs manage to have three players that all score elite goal numbers in a season and it could be the Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius Jr actually stop each other from winning the award - but it has to be said, they are without a doubt the most feared team in the world from an attacking standpoint.
Where could we find other potential winners? Barcelona have Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 42 La Liga goals across his first two seasons and will once again be relied on to be the main goal scorer for Barcelona.
The Polish forward sat in third position in the top goalscorer chart last season, second place was Alexander Sorloth, the gigantic, clinical striker who would likely be a Norway legend if he wasn’t born in the same era as Erling Haaland. Sorloth got his transfer to Atletico Madrid in the Summer and could sit at the top of the charts once again next season.
The man that beat both Lewandowski and Sorloth last season was Artem Dovbyk, who signed for AS Roma and have a similar effect on the Italian Serie A as he has on Spain’s La Liga.
A special mention also has to go out to Atletico Madrid’s striker signing who will play alongside Sorloth, Julián Alvarez - who cost 80 million euros from Manchester City.
Betting on Relegation in La Liga
Bet on the teams to be relegated from La Liga with our relegation betting odds, it is easy to assume that the three teams promoted from the Segunda division will be the most likely teams to be relegated from La Liga. Which would be a bad omen for betting on Leganes, Valladolid or Espanyol matches but for betting on relegation, this isn’t the case. In the last five years, only four teams have gone straight down the season after they have been promoted - which demonstrates the strength of the second tier. In 2021/22, all three newly promoted sides stayed up. While, in 2023/24, Granada were the only team relegated from the promoted three.
Meaning for La Liga, it may be best to back teams that narrowly escaped relegation last year, to be relegated this year - in this case, that would be Rayo Vallecano, Las Palmas, Mallorca and shockingly Sevilla!
