Scottish Cup Odds
The biggest domestic cup competition in Scotland is the Scottish Cup, 130 teams are eligible to enter the competitions with 122 official members of the SFA and eight unofficial members. Similar to England's FA Cup, this competition is the main domestic tournament in Scotland and outside of the league, this is the competition that all Scottish teams wish to win.
The competition has historically been dominated by the likes of Celtic and Rangers who have 113 final appearances between them and 75 victories. Meaning that after 150 years of the competition, the two Glasgow sides have won the tournament 50% of the time.
Betting on the 2024 Scottish Cup Winner
Celtic might be the dominant force of Scottish football but in the last three years, they have only made the final of the tournament once, winning it in 2022/23. It did however, take Rangers to knock them out of the competition in the previous two years. So, in the history of the Scottish Cup, Rangers are the only side to beat Celtic in the competition since 2015 when Celtic were beaten by eventual winners Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
So, what does this mean for 2024? It gives off the impression that we should be looking to back Celtic for success but if we are looking a longshot winner, we should wait to see what the draw entails for Celtic in the quarter-finals. Because if Rangers are out of the competition, it's hard to back against Celtic.
Betting on the opening round matches of the Scottish Cup
There are upsets in the Scottish Cup every year, no matter the round of the competition, there is usually a shock. For example, on October 28th 2023 there were more than 6 shock results including:
- Dunbar United 1-0 East Fife,
- Jeanfield Swifts 6-0 Elgin City
- Stenhousemuir 0-2 Brora Rangers
- Pollok 5-2 Gala Fairydean Rovers
Some of these teams you may recognise, others you may not. However, most of these teams are outside of the Scottish Football League and because of that, they are often high odds to progress through the competition.
Betting on the Outright winner of the Scottish Cup
The Scottish Cup is the top domestic trophy in Scotland, so it's a lot less likely that you'll see the likes of Celtic and Rangers putting out weakened sides. It says a lot that the team who is the 'best of the rest' haven't won the Scottish Cup since 1893. Whether it's Hearts, Aberdeen or Hibernian
