Southampton Next Manager Betting Odds
After a successful promotion campaign last season, Southampton have reasons to celebrate once again. However, depending on how their Premier League campaign starts, we could very soon be asking who the next Southampton manager may be.
There were rumours during the Championship season that current boss Russell Martin would be sacked but the clubs form always improved at the crucial time as they subsequently got promoted through the play-offs at the expense of Leeds United.
Form is KEY for Saints boss Martin
Southampton won 55% of their games in all competitions last season. However, when they did lose or draw games, they often came one after the other. In September they suffered 4 defeats in a row, which began with a 5-0 drubbing off Sunderland. Across February and March, they went on a run of just three wins in nine games, which included dropping points at home to Hull City, Millwall and Middlesbrough and in their final four games, they lost three of them.
So, it's clear that when the Saints lose, it impacts them and it takes a little while to get out of a bad spell of form. This is why IF Southampton are to stay in the Premier League and we assume that is the parameter for how Russell Martin stays in the job at Southampton, then they will need to put together a consistent season and have bounce back ability.
It isn't just negative spells where Southampton were consistent, during the middle of the season, they went on a 22-game unbeaten run, nobody is expecting that in the Premier League but if they can pull together runs against teams in the middle of the table where they pick up points consistently across a number of games, they could seriously trouble the other teams in the division who are looking to avoid relegation.
