Millwall Betting Odds

“No one likes us. We don’t care”, goes the famous chant. As well-known for their passionate fans as they are for avoiding major honours, London’s Millwall are one of the most consistent teams in the football league. The Millwall betting odds don't contain any surprises just yet.

A brief two-season spell in League One between 2015 and 2017 marked one of the most dramatic developments since the last time that happened between 2006 and 2010. Millwall have averaged 11th in the seven campaigns since, sinking to a mid-table 13th last season.

It could’ve been much worse. They only survived after local hero Neil Harris took the club from 21st to 13th in three months. It's technically his fifth job at the club, after signing for Millwall twice as a player (1998-2004 and 2007-2011) and working his way from U21 coach and caretaker to full-time coach before leaving in 2019. He returned in February 2024.

Millwall finished last season with five wins in a row, with four coming by the scoreline of 1-0. Only one club managed to pick up more points after Harris took charge — the promotion-chasing (and achieving) Ipswich Town.

Low-scoring and slow to concede, The Lions had a 36% clean sheet record in 23/24. On the downside, The Den became a fortress in the most ironic way possible. Nobody in the Championship scored fewer goals at home than Millwall.

Millwall Odds to Get Promoted

So far, Millwall promotion odds place the side near newly-promoted Portsmouth and Derby County, not so much as an unknown quantity but as one of the league’s most predictable outfits. Put another way, they’ll do what they did last season — or, to be more precise, slightly worse. Whether this is a bad thing is up for debate, as it doesn’t look like The Lions are going the other way either, as we’ll come to shortly with the odds on Millwall to get relegated.

Despite the obvious improvement under Neil Harris, the club's lack of goals is evident. In 2023/24, only two other clubs scored fewer goals than the Lions (45) — Sheffield Wednesday, who finished 20th with 44, and the worst team in the Championship by far, Rotherham United (37).

Overall, Millwall lost 12 goals between 22/23 and their most recent campaign.

Still, a win is a win. If The Lions are to defy the Millwall betting and achieve promotion, it will be by grinding out those 1-0 results. 10 of their 16 victories were won by that scoreline in 23/24.

Millwall Relegation Odds

Neil Harris managed impressive wins last season but oversaw losses to Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday, and the stricken Rotherham United. A few injuries to Millwall’s often formidable defence could see them unable to overcome the deficit caused by their struggles in front of goal.

They've been quiet in the summer transfer window so far, releasing two players (Bialkowski and Hutchinson), and sending Alex Mitchell to Charlton. Combined, they’ve spent nothing and received nothing.

Recently released Spurs player and favourite at The Den after a recent loan spell, Japhet Tanganga, is still agreeing personal terms with Millwall.

This isn’t the behaviour of a club chasing promotion or hoping to stave off relegation, which might alarm onlookers. Yet, nothing in Millwall’s activity suggests they intended to do anything but secure their position in the Championship for another year.

Overall, given that pundits won't be paying attention, Millwall have the potential to surprise.
