Hull City Betting Odds

After finishing 18th in the Premier League during the 16/17 season, Hull City odds withered. Another 18th place under Nigel Adkins almost caused their second relegation on the bounce. Yet, things would briefly get brighter in East Yorkshire.

Adkins redeemed himself with a mid-table finish in the Championship but made his own way out the door by rejecting a fresh contract. New hire Grant McCann would be the fifth coach at MKM Stadium in a decade. Hull's longest stay outside the Premier League since their 08/09 promotion began with a rock-bottom finish in 19/20 but McCann would stay on to guide the Tigers northward again, back to the Championship.

Since then, a single campaign under Shota Arveladze (ex-Pakhtakor Tashkent) followed by two years under Liam Rosenior has seen Hull transformed from relegation regulars to candidates for the play-offs in the Hull City odds.

Last season, Hull played a possession-based football that gave them more control in the middle of the pitch than every other Championship team apart from Leicester City and Ipswich.

Unfortunately, keeping the ball came at a cost. They failed to score a goal on the counter-attack all year, a distinction they shared with fellow Yorkshire club Rotherham United.

The musical chairs continue at Hull City. Former Hamburger SV manager Tim Walter joined on a three-year deal at the end of May 2024. The promotion expert has a higher PPM (1.79) than Liam Rosenior (1.40) but he's untested outside his native Germany.

Hull City Odds to Get Promoted

With a 7th-place finish in 23/24, the Hull City betting odds don't favour the Tigers for automatic promotion. Leeds, Burnley, Middlesborough, and recent Premier League drop-outs Luton are early favourites ahead of next season.

The odds on Hull City to get promoted via the play-offs also have the club as outsiders. Hull City’s promotion campaign will come down to the quality of Tim Walter's signings during the preseason, as well as how fast the manager can get the team playing his style.

The German's preference is a flowing, attacking style of football, which will mesh with the Tiger's possession-focused game from last season — provided that they can keep a hold of players like £5m signing Jaden Philogene, Hull's top-scorer in 23/24, and centre-back Jacob Greaves.

Having said that, Hull owner Acun Ilicali famously sacked Liam Rosenior for the style of play he forced on the team. This could mean a sea change for the Tigers, especially as Hull is expected to be one of the more active Championship sides in the transfer market, this summer.

Hull City Relegation Odds

Hull’s inability to make the MKM Stadium a fortress saw them miss out on the playoffs last season. The team were in the bottom half for points picked up at home, earning fewer than Plymouth Argyle and Birmingham City, who finished 21st and 22nd (relegated), respectively. A bad start to the season could see the Hull City relegation odds drop considerably.

The good news is that the Tigers finished 5th for points picked up away from home.

Hull is rightly targeting promotion but the press noted a squad "rebuild" was in order as early as May. The club has either released or failed to retain at least ten players, including Billy Sharp and Adama Traore, so a disappointing transfer window could have the dressing room wanting for quality.

At the very least, Hull need a cohort for Philogene.
