Coventry City Betting Odds

For the last couple of seasons, Coventry City odds have had them in the mix for promotion. With Mark Robins at the helm since their brief stint in League Two, Coventry has become well-known for their attractive style of football and ability to take down the biggest and best clubs in the Championship.

The caveat, of course, is that they haven’t been able to vault that final hurdle. In 2022/23, anyone partaking in Coventry City betting will have been gutted to see them bow out to Luton Town on penalties. Last season, a catastrophic run of six losses, one draw, and one win in their last eight games saw the Sky Blues sink to ninth.

That said, they did go on a superb cup run. In the FA Cup, Coventry City took the eventual champions, Manchester United, to the wire, marking their deepest run in a senior domestic competition since 1990. Going 3-3 with the Red Devils after extra time proved the team’s incredible aptitude for competing all over the pitch.

A big issue for the Coventry City promotion odds as the season unfolded were injuries. Arguably their two best performers, Ben Sheaf and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, were forced to miss 15 and 13 league games, respectively. The 2022/23 midfield mainstay Jamie Allen also missed a huge chunk of the season, as did captain Liam Kelly.

Coventry City Odds to Get Promoted

With a lacklustre end to last season and many key players being injured, the hope is that Coventry City’s star have evaded the transfer spotlight. If this is the case, Robins will return with a – if fully fit – strong squad that’s already received some reinforcements (Marko Stamenic and Raphael Borges Rodrigues).

Losing Gustavo Hamer after the first game last season certainly hurt, as did seeing striker Viktor Gyökeres head to Liga Portugal. With over £30 million coming in for the two of them, though, Coventry simply couldn’t decline the offers. Still, seven more players were purchased to pad the team, with 26-year-old Sakamoto being the oldest.

Now, there’s a solid mix of experience and youth with even the younger players having gained a lot of experience last season. You could see it as a balance of Jake Bidwell, Kasey Palmer, and Ben Sheaf anchoring the likes of Milan Van Wijk, Ellis Simms, and Bobby Thomas.

Key to the Coventry City odds for promotion will, naturally, be the goal scoring. In all competitions, both Haji Wright and Simms were able to contribute significantly. The two scored 19 goals each and set up another 12 between them. Throw in a full season of Sakamoto building on his seven goals, and you’ve got a potent attack.

Coventry City Relegation Odds

Some might see the Coventry relegation odds as being fair game based on their total time in the Championship. Since coming up, City have finished 16th, 12th, fifth, and ninth – so, maybe, they’ve been overperforming. Really, though, the team looks to be more on the ascendency and only had its wings clipped by bad luck last season.

This is a strong squad led by a manager who clearly knows how to get the best out of his players and play a terrific style of football. Robins would seemingly be able to weather even a poor start, given his legacy at the club, but should he be shown the door early, the Coventry City odds might just go from the promotion market to the relegation odds.

Coming into the 2024/25 campaign, without any major outgoings so far, Coventry City betting is much more focussed on promotion than relegation, with the Sky Blues at 9/2 to finally vault into the Premier League.
