Bristol City Betting Odds
This might just be the season that the Bristol City odds turn in favour of the club finding its way to the Premier League. Bristol City have entrenched themselves in the Championship for what will be their tenth season in 2024/25, rarely living in fear of relegation or challenging for a promotion spot during that time.
Last season saw the Robins fly to their joint-second-highest finish in the second tier during this stay, but it wasn’t all clear skies en route to landing 11th in the league. Nigel Pearson was shown the door after the Severnside derby loss and a record of five wins, three draws, and six losses.
It was made clear that the club craved a shot at promotion. Curtis Fleming took charge for a little over a week, winning his one game at the helm 1-0 at Ashton Gate. On 7 November, the Robins swooped in to grab Oxford United manager Liam Manning, who had guided the club to second in League One.
With his emphasis on possession and a high press, it was always going to take time for Manning’s methods to click with the team and produce results. It’s a very demanding style of play that needs technical players and a lot of stamina in all outfield positions.
Over the last seven games of the season, things were looking promising, bringing punters to the Bristol City betting markets. It followed a run of four losses but ended with four losses, two draws, and one loss. That’s 14 points in the last seven games, and yet, the Bristol City promotion odds have them ranking 15th.
Bristol City Relegation Odds
While there would have been some Bristol City betting on them to go down last season, they don’t appear to be in too much danger this season. There were many positives to build on from last season that are clearly as a result of the team becoming better accustomed to Manning’s tactics.
Only Southampton conceded fewer goals from set pieces than the Robins, and they were only topped by Leicester City for penalties won. With a full summer of preparation and perhaps a few ready-made additions who can play the system well, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bristol City odds consistently have them as favourites in games.
However, the vast majority of clubs who end up challenging towards the promotion spots have a go-to goalscorer. In 2023/24, their 53 goals were good for 15th in the Championship, but the defensive strength of the team conceded the fourth-fewest goals. Seemingly, a quality goalscorer is the missing piece.
As it stands, though, the Bristol City to be relegated odds reflect their lack of scoring power. The Robins aren’t amongst the favourites to go down, but can’t be considered completely safe from the drop zone when they look set to rely too much on set pieces for goals.
Bristol City Promotion Odds
The Bristol City promotion odds have the Robins set to place more towards the other end of the table than the top six. Out at 33/1 to win the league, these Bristol City odds have them alongside the likes of Derby County, Millwall, Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday, and Swansea City to reach the promised land.
It seems very unlikely that Bristol City will get promoted at the end of the 2024/25 season. Some savvy reinforcements could change this, but it’d take some leap to go from a rather average campaign to a promotion-worthy one. That said, they’re certainly not the most unlikely to go up.
