Blackburn Rovers Betting Odds

The Blackburn Rovers odds to go up coming into the campaign were rather good, and yet, the one-time Premier League champions courted the prospect of relegation for much of last season. After Tony Mowbray left at the end of the 2021/22 season, Jon Dahl Tomasson took what the former manager put together and went one better. Blackburn went from finishing eighth under Mowbray to seventh under Tomasson in 2022/23, only missing the playoffs on goal difference.

The 2023/24 campaign started well with a 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion. Unfortunately, an opening weekend win wouldn’t lead to any consistency. Blackburn would only pull together winning runs on two occasions through to the end of the season.

With ten wins, three draws, and 16 losses in the Championship, averaging 1.14 points per game, Tomasson was given his marching orders. John Eustace came in to try to prevent the Blackburn Rovers to be relegated odds from paying out. Making the team much more difficult to beat, his four wins, eight draws, and five losses to average 1.18 points per game were enough to stave off relegation. Ultimately, it took the last day’s 2-0 win over the champions, Leicester City, to secure safety.

Key to getting fans on board in the Blackburn Rovers betting was Sammie Szmodics. Under Tomasson in his first season at the club, Szmodics scored seven goals from attacking midfield. Last season, still from attacking midfield, the English-born Irishman scored 27 goals to become the first top goalscorer to net the award while fighting relegation.

Blackburn Rovers Relegation Odds

Under Eustace, the Blackburn to be relegated odds didn’t exactly improve. The rate of losses slowed, and his tenure began with a win, but after that, Rovers didn’t win at Ewood Park again and required all three points on the final day to keep in the Championship.

The shining light for Blackburn’s style of play last season was their counter-attacking. Second only to Leeds United on counter-attacking goals, Rovers would consistently send well-placed through balls up the pitch to unleash the forwards. The tactic worked to a tee, with Szmodics being the main beneficiary of the breakaway strategy.

Sitting back and waiting for the time to strike can work if you’re building off of a very strong defensive structure. Rovers didn’t have this. Against set pieces and shots from outside of the box, Blackburn were particularly weak, and it’s this that put them in the relegation mix.

Too many points were dropped to teams that, on paper, Rovers should have been beating. Indeed, they became tougher to beat with Eustace at the helm, but their average points per game only improved by 0.04 after the switch. Making Ewood Park a fortress is essential to avoiding relegation and improving in 2024/25.

Blackburn Rovers Promotion Odds

The Blackburn promotion odds don’t make for encouraging reading. Rovers came into the summer at 14/1 to get promoted and 40/1 to win the league. At this point, Szmodics, Callum Brittain, Ryan Hedges, and Sam Gallagher were all still on the books. Should any major outgoings take place, those Blackburn odds would surely sink further.

That said, this is the Championship, and stranger runs to the Premier League have happened…
