Ronnie O’Sullivan - Was 3/1*, Now 4/1* To Win

The obvious favourite coming into the UK Championships. Last year’s winner comes into this years event in another strong run of form. Success at the Champion of Champions has set The Rocket up perfectly for his first shot at one of this season’s Triple Crown events. His run to the quarter finals is set to be fairly straightforward. Marco Fu and Jack Lisowski are both in the top 20, but are set to play each other before a potential matchup with O’Sullivan. Ronnie’s first match is against amateur player Luke Simmonds, so don’t be surprised to see O’Sullivan get into his rhythm early.

Mark Williams - 12/1* To Win

Mark Williams doesn’t come into the event in the best form of his career, but there’s no doubting the Welshman's quality on the baize. The 2018 World Champion followed up his win with a World Open success in August, but has only made it to the quarter finals in one other tournament so far this season. He is a 2 time winner of the UK Championship however, including a 2002 win at the York Barbican. Along with his 2 runner up places, that makes him the 5th most successful ever player at this tournament, so it’s clear that he has pedigree.

Mark Selby - 6/1* To Win

In the last 10 years, no player has made the UK Championship final more times than Mark Selby. The current world number 1 already has success under his belt this season with a win in September’s China Championship. He’s also managed to reach the latter stages of tournaments, with 2 quarter final appearances and 1 semi final appearance so far. His semi final appearance came against Ronnie O’Sullivan, when he was cruelly beaten 6-5 at the Northern Ireland Open. His run to at least the last 16 looks favourable, so expect Selby to stay in the tournament for the long haul.

John Higgins - 10/1* To Win

John Higgins’ form has been very hit and miss recently as he looks to regain the form that saw him win the 2010 UK Championship. At the World Championships, Higgins was back to his best and reached the final against Mark Williams. Although he ultimately lost, this was a sign of Higgins potentially getting back to his best. Having only entered 5 tournaments this season without success, it’s tough to get a true judgement of Higgins’ preparation. Although he isn’t the player he once was, the big stage might be a perfect opportunity for him.

Judd Trump - 8/1* To Win

Unlike John Higgins, Trump has already been involved in a number of different tournaments this year. 8 tournaments down already this season, Judd Trump has been quite successful so far. Success at the Northern Ireland open has been complemented by 3 quarter final appearances. His final win in Northern Ireland came against Ronnie O’Sullivan after a 9-7 win. With a potential semi final match up against The Rocket, Trump will surely be full of confidence.
